Bandito opened its doors in Tucson, Arizona in Spring of 2017, though it might be said to have began much earlier. Starting in 2007, Katie Petersen traced a circuitous trail across the fashion and retail landscape, from Buffalo Exchange on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley to the designer ready-to-wear floor of Barneys New York to the small vintage and contemporary boutiques of Oakland, California. A blissfully unplanned, destination-less road trip eventually brought her to Southern Arizona, where two years of chasing wild horses ended with a move to the Old Pueblo of Tucson.
What began as a pop-up of her travels' treasures soon found a permanent home on a picturesque, tree-lined street in Armory Park. There, Katie seeks to offer an ever-changing assortment of vintage and handmade goods for living well. Bandito is inspired by the desert it calls home, but also by rock and roll, California modernism, the road to Kathmandu in the age of Aquarius, and late afternoon sun gathering in amber glasses and dancing on the frenetic patterns of Turkish textiles. It is a store, of course, but also a feeling.
We hope that you step into our world, and stay awhile.
